It takes its name from the famous cocktail that is often served in it, just like the Martini glass. It is notable for its heavy, thick base and thick rim, giving the drinker a sense of luxury to the touch. The Old-fashioned glass is often used to simply serve bourbon or whisky with ice. It is designed to serve spirits and cocktails that are served over some ice but with less liquid than long cocktails. This glass is often also known as a tumbler, lowball or short drink glass. A classic Old-fashioned glass has straight sides and a capacity to the brim of around 11oz (32cl). Although it is sturdy, it is not best suited for muddling. The Rocks glass, which is made of toughened glass, is more appropriate for this purpose. Related Content
