Milk

Milk

Dairy milk is used from time to time to add body and depth to certain cocktails, such as hot cocktails or coffee-based cocktails.

The most commonly used variety of milk tends to be cow’s milk, which is slightly acidic. However, some people (including vegetarians and lactose intolerants) may prefer to use soya milk instead. When mixed with other ingredients, depending on the quantity either type of milk is suitable.

Other types of milk, such as goat’s milk or rice milk, can be used depending on taste and requirements, although goat’s milk tends to have a stronger flavour.

It is usually recommended to use semi-skimmed milk, which tends to be less rich than full fat milk and therefore easier to mix with other cocktail ingredients.

Milk is a particularly popular cocktail for mixing hot cocktails such as Irish Latte, other chocolate or coffee-based cocktails like Insomniac, or as a substitute to cream or coconut milk as in Piña Colada Virgin.
