Strawberries

Strawberries

Fresh strawberries are sweet and fragrant, and closely related to raspberries and blackberries, being a member of the rose family.

Technically not considered a fruit but rather a "false fruit" due to where it originates from the plant, the Garden variety was first produced in Europe in the early 18th century.

The more expensive wild strawberries tend to be smaller and finer in flavour, and featuring a musky scent. The best strawberries to use for making cocktails are the smaller, darker types.

They should be washed briefly with warm water and kept no longer than 48 hours in a refrigerator.

Ripe strawberries can very easily be muddled, blended or pureed into a cocktail, depending on your preference. Fresh or frozen strawberries are also often used as a cocktail garnish.
