Some cocktails require stirring the ingredients with ice and straining into a glass before serving, a less vigorous technique than shaking.

In addition to a mixing glass, this involves using a long bar spoon with spiralling stem. You can also the base of a Standard Shaker.

How to stir a cocktail:

1After combining the ingredients in the glass, add 2/3 ice cubes;

2Place the back of the spoon inside the mixing glass and slide down before stirring the drink for 20-25 seconds;

3Strain into a glass using a Hawthorne strainer, taking care not to pour any ice cubes in the cocktail. If you are using a Standard Shaker, strain into the glass using the top part of the shaker.
